Equipment

Lakeside currently has molding machines ranging from 20 to 3500 Tons of clamping pressure. This allows us to produce everything from small buttons to wheel liners.

Automation

Lakeside currently has several robotic take off devices for the purpose of:

  • Streamlining of machine process
  • Allowing consistent demolding times
  • Further stabilizing processes
  • Eliminating ergonomic concerns with manually demolding products
  • Allowing part separation where left and right hand product or differing
products are produced within same mold
  • Allowing separate deposit areas for "suspect" product when rejects
are signalled or warning tolerances are met to aid in preventing
       outflow.

Vision Camera Technology

Whether mounted instream or downstream of the process, Lakeside uses vision cameras to allow for:

  • detection of parts being free from mold prior to closing
  • detection of color variance in molded parts
  • detection of short shots
  • detection of proper insert placement in insert molding
  • detection of proper alignment of critical moving parts in mold
  • tie-ins to complement both the IMM closed-loop processor and robotic device for futher detection of suspect product and prevention of outflow

Molding Operations

With our 34 Injection Molding Machines, we offer a full range of service capability, including services such as:

  • Insert molding
  • Second shot molding
  • Laminate (applique) molding
  • Sequential valve gate molding
  • New mold tryout
  • Protoype runs

Secondary Assembly

Lakeside is well established in the area of secondary assembly. We provide a full range of services, including:

  • Multi-Component Assembly (Metallic & Plastic)
  • Heat Staking
  • Robot-Assisted Assembly
  • Ultrasonic Welding
  • Vibration Welding
  • Grommetting

Error Protection (also known as Poke-Yoke) protection features are part of our Secondary Assembly standards. Some of the technologies used to achieve advanced error proofing are:

  • Vision Recognition
  • PLC "Anti-Repeat" Programming
  • Laser Switches
  • Part Presence Detection
  • Short Shot Detection
  • Photoelectric Switches
  • Capacitive Sensors
  • Inductive Sensors

Tooling

Lakeside has the experience to design and maintain the tooling necessary for quality production through the entire life of the program. Accordingly, we:

  • Clean and lubricate all molds each shift
  • Track the number of shots each tool has performed and once a
pre-determined point has been reached, the tool is disassembled for
inspection, cleaning, lubrication and repairs as necessary
  • Invite all production staff to add input on our tooling for not only repairs, but
       improvements as well
  • Perform engineering changes when required
  • Perform fixture maintenance, repair and calibration
  • Perform emergency repairs
